There is one thing in common between Semarang and Jakarta, they both had a “Kota Tua” (Old Town); the first walled settlement of the Dutch in both city.

Semarang, formerly the dutch: pronounce it as SAMARANG, is a city on the north coast of java, Indonesia. Semarang is the capital and largest city of the province of Central Java. I am actually not a historian so I am not going to write so much about the history of this big city, just the part of the city: The Old Town.

This place has so mach stories to tell, just visit and go there and open your ears and eyes widely. and make sure you already equipped with cameras so you will not miss any spot to get a good moments. I used my Nikon D300s with Tokina 11-16 F/2.8 to get wide angle

Blenduk Church

We start here, park my car just across this church. It is over 200 years as a Landmark of Semarang, located on 32, Letjend Suprapto Street. People of Semarang called it “Blenduk Church” because there are two big dome on top of both tower, in javanese language “Blenduk” mean “Dome”, the dutch build this church in 1753 by 2 dutch architect, HPS De Wilde and Westmas.

This is building build with a religion purpose, and that is why it has a symmetrical composition to make it look formal, and a lot of european detail where it is came from. but for a photography composition it is better to make it look more perspective so I took it not from the exact front but a little right side so I can get the perspective. My wide angle Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 lens made it even better. I took in the morning about 09.00 am

This picture were taken from front right side of the church because the sun came from the right back of the building, and a little HDR to let the detail at the front still be able to see. and to make more like historical building I took it with monochrome tone.

Old House Restaurant

Not far from Blenduk Church, about 100 meter we found an old house that use as a restaurant “Ikan Bakar Cianjur”, the Architecture of this building still keeping the colonial style and unique because there isn’t any front yard, just one step from the street.
With low angle shot and the sun from my behind, it make the light give a good detail from this house ornamen, and lucky me that there was a Becak just past through and give a good foreground.

Still many good spot at this old town of semarang, and I will write in my next post
thanx for visiting
